Why Chiropractic for Children
Written by Jeanne Ohm, D.C. and Pamela Stone, D.C.

Chiropractic care for children offers your family a solid foundation for wellness. Throughout pregnancy, birth, and childhood, the chiropractic lifestyle offers choices and benefits for your greater health and well-being.
Even the so-called “normal” birth experience can subject a newborn’s delicate spine to excessive pressure and stress, causing spinal nerve interference. This nerve interference (a vertebral subluxation) can affect the infant’s ability to express health to his/her fullest potential. Childhood is a very active time. Running, jumping, falls and accidents are all part of a normal childhood and yet they can cause spinal misalignments. Many parents believe their children are fine because there is no external evidence of injury or obvious symptom. However, resulting spinal injuries are often overlooked and many times are left uncorrected.
The National Safety Council reports in a study of 536 children that 50% had fallen head first from a high place in the first year of life. This can cause vertebral subluxations to their spine that most often go unnoticed. As the child grows up, they play sports, fall off bikes, fall off beds, etc., going through a typical, normal childhood. These minor disturbances to their spines add up slowly over time to cause problems, either as a child or adult. Remember this nerve interference (a vertebral subluxation) can affect the infant’s ability to express health to his/her fullest potential. The unique qualification of Chiropractors is the detection and correction of vertebral subluxations.
Children's Chiropractic Safety Research:
The ICPA has initiated a ground breaking study on the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care for children. The preliminary results are outstanding and show that chiropractic care is safe for children. Even more significant is that parents reported three unexpected improvements with their child's care:
